Various locations in Vienna [ENA] The Wiener Festwochen Festival started a couples of days again in Vienna, as every year, at various locations. The festival is always a highlight in cultural life of Viennese people and brings together the most inspiring and innovative performances from all other the world. The performances also provide ground for reflection and discussion about the most actual societal trends nowadays.

With its founding in the 1950s, the Wiener Festwochen laid a number of important foundations for creating a new image for the city both at home and abroad. Today, the Wiener Festwochen position themselves in the city as an interdisciplinary arts festival. In the midst of Vienna's cultural offerings, they serve to present and enable the unseen and unheard, and as a content-related motor to link genres, thoughts and ideas. The Wiener Festwochen is not only a place of production and presentation, but also one where artistic creativity encourages constant reflection on our time and our world.

The beginning of the festival was marked by the performances about the role of women in decision making processes, at the first hand at their homes. Four different performances "Transformation of a living room", "Kingdom", "Pieces of a woman", "Meme" and "The Museum of Uncounted Voices" tell stories of women who were denied their right of self-definition. In "Transformation of a living room" developed by Toshiki Okada and Dai Fujikura an abusive man is dominating the world of four women. The story is getting a further conflicting spiral as the protagonists are under threat of living their home, which creates further uncertainty.

In "Kingdom" by Anne-Cécile Vandalem a man, a patriarch, creates his own kingdom while taking family for living to the wildness of a forest. The plea of his wife to let her go back to civilisation remain unheard while leading to her tragic death and years of enmity between various family members. The "Pieces of a woman" by Kornél Mundruczó and Kata Wéber show a story of a woman who faced a greatest tragedy while loosing her child during the birth and how she has to manage with reactions and feelings of her family members. The "Mémé" by Sarah Vanhee is a story about women who were denied a right to say how many children they would like to have while keeping them at the reproduction function.

In the "Museum of uncounted voices" by Marina Davydova a woman is denied a right for cultural and national belonging while remaining after political turbulences of the last century a citizen of a non-existing country or being a non-citizen of an existing country. All these performances developed with a great attention to details and with a very carefully taken forward storyline put the voices of women, heard or not heard, in front, while highlighting consequences of situations when women were deprived of their rights. Another detail of this year festival is a careful attention to details on the stage, while bringing spectators to a real living rooms, creating the feeling of belonging to what is going on the stage.
